Mumia Abu Jamal is a political prisoner from Philadelphia Pennsylvania who was framed for
the murder of a Philly police officer in 1982. Since his ridiculously fouled up trial, he has
been on Pennsylvania's death row for a crime he did not commit. This frame up is politically
charged because of Mumia's constant work for the freedom and liberation of the oppressed
African community. IT'S TIME TO SET OUR BROTHER FREE!

The following is a proposal, info-blotter, and timeline for a benefit music festival for the
freedom of our captive soldier in the fight for freedom worldwide. Many people have gotten
behind Mumia in his fight for his life, including actors (Whoopi Goldberg, Ed Asner) and
governments (several UN countries have denounced the US's treatment of Mumia and other
political prisoners), as well as grassroots social/political organizations all over the
planet.

The Insect Rebellion Artists Collective, who have been active in the artist and activist
community since 1995, have dedicated July 21-22 2000 in support of Mumia. A festival is being
planned in his honor and defense. We are currently looking for underground/independent
artists to participate in this non-commercial, people organized event. The current musical
line up will consist of bands from the punk rock, alternative, and hip hop communities.

Festival Particulars:

The festival will include speakers and workshops on issues concerning our community; a pot
luck of free vegetarian food; puppet shows, dance troupes, and other forms of expression.
Of course, the main ingredient will be the bands and hip hop groups performing. We are
currently looking for 10 hip hop groups and 10 punk rock/hardcore acts to fill the slots. We
believe in both forms of music and we also have faith that this project will work to bridge
the communities as well provide a viable outlet for expression, activism, and fun.

Bands will be paid with portions from pre ticket sales. Also, all performers will be provided
with a place to stay during the events.

Where?
This festival will be held in Greenville, NC at the Kiwanis Building. The space is
drug/alcohol free and will be able to house the many people we hope to attend. There will be
adequate sound, lighting, and space to set up shop for bands distributing materials.

Tickets?
Tickets will cost $16 in advance. The festival will be $20 at the door. If you are paying for
just one day, it will cost $10 in advance, or $12 at the door. There will also be a rave
planned for Saturday night (july 22); this event will be $2 with the purchase of a one or
two day pass to the festival. It will be $6 without.

If you are a band slated to perform, please contact Alex Smith at 252-830-2966 or
blakdawn@hotmail.com for more specific questions or for directions. Thank you for supporting
this event! FREE MUMIA!!
